"Stigma around investigating UAPs prevents us from getting real answers." Congressman Robert Garcia Homeland Security Committee member

MENTAL HEALTH

As written within the 2024 Immaculate Constellation report, "unease," "distress," "anxiety," and "dread" are outcomes associated with UAP experiences. Who can experiencers speak with about their emotions? Basically no one. Due to a combination of gatekeeping, ignorance, and stigma, a seven-stage predicament stops experiencers from finding helpers. I call it the Isolated Experiencer Outcome (IEO).

1. Experiencers Need Educated Helpers

2. Helpers Aren't Educated

3. Education Isn't Available

4. Helpers Remain Ignorant

5. Ignorance Becomes Stigma

6. Stigma Becomes Normalized

7. Experiencers Can't Find Educated Helpers

Experiencers Need Educated Helpers  Gabriel De la Torre wrote in his 2023 paper "Psychological Aspects in UAP Witnesses" that UAP experiences leave "clear psychological impact" such as "shock and disbelief." It's almost always life-changing. Experiencers can't find educated helpers because....

Helpers Aren't Educated  UAP Medical Coalition director Ted Roe wrote in a 2024 document, "Long-standing national stigma and limited evidence-based clinical research have created a negative feedback loop between UAP experiencers" and providers. Helpers aren't educated because....

Education Isn't Available  No accredited degree programs for medical doctors and mental health professionals offer UAP education. The two most popular providers of professional continuing education courses don't offer UAP courses and don't accept such proposals. Education remains absent because....

Helpers Remain Ignorant  Within his 2024 document Ted Roe asked, "Where, how, when, and to whom does one report UAP exposure?" and "Who should one go to for appropriate physical and mental care after a UAP exposure?" These are no agreed upon answers. Then professionalism deteriorates because....

Ignorance Becomes Stigma  Psychology Today has led this charge, its editor writing, "Many want to believe in creatures from outer space." Rhetoric like "flying saucer people," "UFO cults," "indoctrination," "brainwashing," and "obsession du jour" is common. Stigma and ridicule gain foothold because....

Stigma Becomes Normalized  Charlton and Marissa Yingling determined in their 2024 paper "Academic Freedom and the Unknown" that among 1,460 academics, 60 percent felt studying UAPs would damage their reputation and chance foradvancement.  Now we're back where we started because....

Experiencers Can't Find Educated Helpers  Even if a helper is educated in UAPs, popular websites that connect people to helpers don't let experiencers search for UAP-centric care. These websites don't let helpers communicate they're able to help experiencers. They can't find me, I can't find them.

While Erik is a licensed clinical social worker, the services provided through Outcome Counseling aren't clinical in nature and don't substitute clinical diagnosis and treatment.
