Guide to correctly using "UAP" and "UAPs"
From to Reuters, to AARO, to NewsNation, writers cannot grasp correct use of "UAP" and "UAPs." Their misstep stems from thinking that since UAP means "unidentified anomalous phenomena" this initialism "is already plural." Actually, initialisms are singular lexical units. Thus writing "He observed two UAPs" is just as correct as writing, "The engine exploded at 7,000 RMPs, [revolutions per minute]," "The player batted in four RBIs [runs batted in]," and "The POWs [prisoners of war] were fed MREs [meals ready to eat]."
